Heifer Netherlands
Heifer Netherlands is an independent organization. It is part of the international Heifer network, which started in 1944 with the fight against hunger and poverty by promoting sustainable livestock farming.

In the late 1930s, Heifer provided Heifers to people who were suffering from the Spanish Civil War. The first calf was passed on to someone else. This is called ‘Passing on The Gift‘. Now, 80 years later, Heifer has grown into a global organization, and thanks to the Heifer method, 43 million farming families have access to nutritious food and earn a decent income.

Together with NGOs, knowledge institutes, government agencies, the private sector, and many other partners worldwide, Heifer works towards a common goal: eradicating hunger and poverty. It is not the only organization addressing critical issues such as income improvement, food security, gender equality, and climate change. However, it is unique in its 100% locally driven participatory approach focused on organizing farmers into groups.
